Too Many Choices – and Traps!

May 2nd, 2009

Over the past few days I’ve browsed countless sites for consumer opinions on various anti aging facial creams.  The thing is, with so many anti-wrinkle products out there, which one should I pick to try?

I’ve noticed that for almost all of the facial skin care products I looked at, there are both supporters that swear by their effectiveness, and “boo’ers” that complain they had wasted their money on the product.  I guess what this boils down to is that different products work for different folks because everyone’s skin is different.  For this reason, I’m prepared to try at least several different skin care products until I find one that works well enough for me.

The problem is that this stuff costs money – some of them a lot.  I could just limit myself to the cheaper products, but then, if I end up trying a bunch of stuff that don’t work, won’t that be a waste of more money?  I’d much rather spend a little more and actually get something that works.

Then I found a way to minimize the costs of buying and trying different products – many products offer free trials, where they let you try the product for a number of days for free.  If a product doesn’t work for me, I could send it back before the deadline and not pay anything.

The only thing I need to watch is that I don’t sign up for scam offers, which seem to be rampant in facial cream trial offers.  I’ve come across complaint reports filed by consumers who have ordered the “free trial products”, only to find out afterwards that the 14-day “free trial period” (for example) included shipping time for BOTH WAYS.  Now how would that give anyone time to test the product when it takes 5-7 days to ship the product each way?  I made a mental note to always read the terms and conditions of each offer before signing up.

So, I’m going to be compiling a list of free trials to choose from.  Then, I’ll research each product by going to forums where I can find genuine feedback by consumers (instead of the “review sites” that get paid to promote products and “top 10″ sites that get paid to rank certain products higher than others).  After that I’ll pick some free trials to actually try out.

Please stay tuned!
